Är för tillfället på tidning 60-eller-så och tänkte att det nog är dags att pusha lite för den här serien, eftersom den är bra.
I The Walking Dead får vi följa en blandad grupp människor som slagit sig ihop för att kunna överleva i en värld full av zombier. Tyvärr för dem visar det sig att människor är minst lika farliga som zombier är, och bra mycket mer skrämmande. Kirkman leverarar vad som känns som en trovärdig vision av hur människor - från småbarn till gamlingar - skulle reagera om en zombieepidemi slog ut samhället från under deras fötter. Illustrationerna fungerar bra under både Moore och Adlard, trots deras olika stilar, och zombierna är ursnygga.
Det är också snack om att The Walking Dead ska bli en TV-serie.

Brave New World

Författare: Aldous Huxley
Genre: Dystopi

Som läsare av dystopigenren utgår man ju ifrån att samhället i boken är resultatet av en beklagansvärd utveckling. I Brave New World handlar det om ett helt oflexibelt klassamhälle, där barn massproduceras i provrör för att passa sina klasser och där de som känner sig det minsta olyckliga genast tar en lyckodrog för att hålla sig nöjda.
Men är Brave New World verkligen en dystopi? I några kapitel framåt slutet av boken lyckas Huxley med konststycket att få läsaren att tvivla. Fram till dess är det ingen tvekan om att det är synd om befolkningen, som lever i ett så kärlekslöst samhälle. Fram tills dess är boken hyfsat intressant, men inte så mycket mer. Men de där få sidorna i försvar till en värld som dittills verkat tragisk för läsaren... de är riktigt bra.

The plague of zombies spread to every corner of Earth. The humans fought back for their lives and eventually managed to rid themselves of the most immediate threat. Ten years later a journalist meets with different people who survived the apocalypse, to hear their story.
This is World War Z.
World War Z tackles the subject of zombies by being very down to earth about it. Since the setting is after the 'apocalypse', the worst panic is over and people can talk rationally about what happened. Chapter after chapter, the book logically explains most of those questions that bug you while watching a zombie movie. The most prominent being: how would people - people all over the word - actually react if zombieism started spreading?
Brooks answers that question, both on a national and a personal level. All kinds of persons are interviewed - mostly military, but also survivors from the general population. They all have something to tell, be it the horrifyingly unsuccessful battle of Yonkers, or how a teenage computer geek noticed something was wrong when his parents stopped bringing food to his room.
World War Z is an original twist in the zombie genre. Cudos on the attempt to portray what happened all over the world - and not just in the USA (although there is a reason I chose to write 'attempt'). The biggest advantage of the book is the ever-present human factor. No matter who is interviewed, there is always a measure of humanity, and that is very, very touching. As far as I am concerned, World War Z could very well be a book written after a real zombie apocalypse.

Published in 1949, this book portrays a future dystopia, where cameras watch your every step and troublemakers are quickly disposed of. The main character is a middle aged, middle class citizen. His job is to alter 'obsolete information' in newspapers, but he's got the nagging feeling that something must be amiss.
It is a harsh, cruel world that is revealed to the reader. Freedom of speech has not existed for a long time - freedom of thought barely does either. Love between family members is an exception to the rule; friends you do not have; constant war rages. The disturbing thing is that you do understand how they got there, and how easily we could end up with a world just like it. Orwell does a very good job, creating a scaringly credible dystopia.
As many other books, 1984 is divided inte different parts. My rating reflects what I thought about the first parts of the book. The last part was a bit too Clockword Orange for me. (Now, I love A Clockwork Orange, so don't get me wrong. It just felt kind of pointless, reading the same thing all over again.)
